Kiddush & Quidditch!
Why is Harry Potter wearing a kippah and chasing a Golden Snitch Sim Shalom Siddur?
Because we are having a Quidditch tournament, in the Goldberg, on Feb 12th.
All 5-12th graders are invited to compete. Just bring a dark and white shirt, sneakers, and a cape (if you so desire). We'll explain the rules of the game and provide you with broomsticks. You can even earn extra points for your House by coming to shul for Shabbat morning services. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer.
Didn't realize people outside of Hogwarts played Quidditch? Take a look at the first-ever International Quidditch World Cup, held in NYC a few months ago. http://www.internationalquidditch.org/

Dec Events Re-Cap!
Although Judah Macca-"G" did not win the edible Chanukah competition, he will be remembered for his gangsta style. Everyone had a great time eating latkes, singing songs, and surprising Jonah with a going away party. Congratulations to Dylan Abrams for winning the Israel Affairs VP Election!
Kadima Holiday Scramble
We were so excited for Purim, we had to make hamantashen in December! And yes, we did successfully celebrate Chanukah, Tu B'shvat, Purim, Pesach, Shavuot, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Shabbat (in just one hour!).

Nov 4th Surprise Lounge
What started out as a tame Game Night in the Youth Lounge turned into a real-life who-dunnit, sending our USYers all over the synagogue in search of clues to solve the Mystery of the Missing Blue Kippah. After the kippah was finally discovered back in the Youth Lounge, we had an info session about USY Summer and Israel Programs. Past participants shared some of their favorite memories from USY on Wheels, TRY, and Pilgrimage.Nov 10th Interchapter LazerGate
People. Games. Fun. LASERS. LazerGate was by far the most popular Sr. USY event of the year. Who doesn't love laser tag?Nov 12th USY Family Shabbat Services & Dinner
A huge yasher koach to the USY Board for organizing such a wonderful Friday night experience. Over 80 people attended! After beautiful Shabbat services led by our USYers, we enjoyed a delicious meal together and sang some of our favorite USY tunes to the traditional zemirot. It was so nice to welcome in Shabbat as one big youth group family.
Sr. USY Highlights from October 2010
Here are some of our events from October:
At the October 7th Pajama Lounge, the Sr. USYers had a pajama fashion show, had an "organized" pillow fight, and then had a pillow fort building contest. By the end of the event, everyone was ready for bed.
We also volunteered for our second year at the Advocates in Action Conference at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, RI on Oct 28th. We helped out at their Disability Resources Fair by face-painting and helping run a carnival. SATO in Action!
Sr. USY at the Salisbury Farm Corn Maze on Oct 23 |

Welcome to the brand new Providence USY blog!
At Temple Emanu-El in Providence, RI, we have three amazing youth groups: Kadima for grades 5-6, Jr. USY for grades 7-8, and Sr. USY for grades 9-12. Together, these groups are known as the Providence chapter of United Synagogue Youth, or Providence USY. We are proud members of the rockin'-est region of all time--aka NERUSY (New England Region USY).
This is your spot for all things Providence USY. Stay tuned for upcoming events, pictures from past events, NERUSY news, polls, and guest posts. This blog will serve as a new and improved way for communicating with parents, kids, and prospective members.
In hopes of reaching out to more Jewish youth in Rhode Island, this year we will be collaborating with our friends from Cranston and Warwick akaWestbay USY. We are very excited to welcome them to all of our chapter events (see our new header logo : ) ). As always, you don't have to be from Providence to be a part of Providence USY.
